VIRGINIA BEACH -- Less than 24 hours after Gilbert McGriff's murder, Virginia Beach homicide detectives continued to knock on doors asking questions.

One resident who didn't want to identified described what she heard on Sierra Drive Wednesday night.

"I heard a shot. I heard someone screaming at the top of their lungs and then I heard another shot and then I went in the house," the person said.

Another fearful resident also expressed her concerns.

"...it's right around the corner, where you take out the trash and your kids run around your house, yeah it's very scary," she added.

Meanwhile, children continued to play in the neighborhood while plain-clothes detectives investigated.  that's all the more reason why residents want the case solved.

"I hope they keep going until they find what they're looking for. I don't want them to stop, it's close to home, very close," said another resident.

Authorities say McGriff didn't live in the neighborhood but lived about 15 minutes away.
