NEWPORT NEWS (AP) -- The U.S. Navy says it began inspecting parts used to build submarines nearly a year ago after it received a tip about discrepancies from Northrop Grumman Corp.'s shipyard in Newport News. The supplier, Fairless Hills, Pa.-based Bristol Alloys, and its president, James R. Bullick, were charged this week in a federal information with defrauding the government. Bristol Alloys is accused of altering test reports to falsely show that parts it supplied to a subcontractor met Navy specifications. The Daily Press reports that the shipyard reported administrative discrepancies to the Navy in October 2009. Bristol Alloys' attorney, Michael J. Diamondstein, told the newspaper that the company is cooperating with the government. The company is no longer in business. ------ (Copyright 2010 by The Associated Press.
