NEWPORT NEWS--According to police, a man walked next door to the inn where he was staying and robbed a fast food restaurant Friday night.

Around 6:30 p.m. a lone black male in a hoody walked into the Whataburger restaurant in the 6100 blk of Jefferson Avenue, threatened to shoot the person at the service window, and took an undisclosed amount of money. 

According to Harold Eley of the N.News police,  officers caught up with the suspect at the Thrift Inn next door where he was renting a room.

The suspect is in custody and being questioned by police.  Charges are pending.

Eley said the suspect is a N.News resident about 45 to 50 years old.

The investigation is on-going.
