Dutton, in Gloucester Co.
GLOUCESTER COUNTY -- A 50 year-old man is in intensive care, and Virginia State Police investigators are asking for the public's help in finding a suspect driver after a hit-and-run accident that happened Monday night in the Dutton area of Gloucester County.
According to a State Police spokesperson, Herbert Warren Dixon was riding his 1994 Harley-Davidson motorcycle, accompanied by two friends on a second motorcycle, heading east on Buckley Hall Road toward Mathews, on Monday between 10:15 and 10:30 p.m. A pickup truck traveling west made an unexpected left-hand turn in front of them onto Windsor Road, causing Dixon to run broadside into the truck, throwing Dixon backwards.
The truck, which was descibed only as white or silver in color, left the scene without stopping. Police said they believe there was no way the driver of the pickup truck would not be aware that he or she had been involved in an accident. The incident is being investigated as a felony hit-and-run.
No one involved was able to identify the driver or get a license plate number, but the spokesperson said paint from the motorcycle, described as dark blue and silver in color, might be on the truck in the area which was damaged.
Anyone with information on the case is asked to call 693-6808 and ask for Trooper Carl Greene. They can also contact Virginia State Police at 757-424-6800.
