SUFFOLK -- Crews will take to the air Tuesday night to spray part of the region for mosquitoes.
Every locality has seen an increase in the biting insect since Hurricane Irene, but spraying tonight will concentrate on the Western Tidewater Health District area. That covers Southampton County towns of Boykins, Courtland, and the suburbs of Franklin City including Kingsdale, the City of Franklin, the Isle of Wight County town of Zuni and the suburbs of Franklin City, the City of Suffolk towns of Holland, Whaleyville, and all residential areas in and around the Town of Suffolk and northward to the James River on both sides of the Nansemond River.
Health officials say spray areas do not extend more than approximately one-half mile out from the edge of each town.
Concerned beekeepers should cover hives in damp cloth or burlap to protect bee populations during spraying.
Spraying will be done after dark - between 7:30 p.m. and 2:00 a.m.
