SUFFOLK -- Suffolk police say they found marijuana plants at a home day care.
Warrants for possession of marijuana were secured Tuesday for Michael R. Cabrera, 26, and Angie M. Cabrera, 25, both of the 1000 blk. of Snead Dr.
Officers said their wo young children, a three-year-old and a nine-month old, were home at the time of the discovery on Friday.
Officers say they were called that evening by a woman who said her husband was acting strange because he hadn't slept in a few days. After talking with officers, he revealed two containers with marijuana plants, according to authorities.
"To think that they're all there with marijuana plants - that makes me nervous. You could never be too careful," said neighbor Alexia Rhodes.
"It's very scary. It's very scary when you find out someone three doors down was growing pot," added Kimberly Baines.
Police said the home was operating as day care. In an online search, 13News found an ad for Angie's Home Day Care listed at the same Snead Drive address.
The family day care isn't required to be registered with the state because of its low capacity. An unregulated family day home can provide care for no more than five children, in addition to the provider's own children or children residing in the home, or no more than four children under the age of two, including the provider's own children.
Baines said she had heard about the day facility and had even considered using it in the past.
"Once I found out she was doing day care, my husband and I actually very briefly talked about using her just out of convenience. She's right there," stated Baines.
Charges for possession of marijuana are pending.
Police don't believe the man intended to sell the marijuana, saying he told them it was for "personal use."
Child Protective Services also is investigating.
13 News asked a woman at the home about the incident, but she declined to comment.
