WILLIAMSBURG – Hurricane Earl cut short a few vacations on the Outer Banks.
Evacuations ahead of the storm Thursday sent many people into waiting hotel rooms in Williamsburg.
The hotel and motel association said bookings increased when Earl got close.
The Bradys, a family of 15 from Pennsylvania, had to leave Hatteras Island.
"We didn't know what to do with the rest of our vacation," said Mary Ellen Brady.
They’re spending the rest of their vacation in Williamsburg, occupying five rooms and enjoying the attractions.
"It's been great because the kids are having a great time. They look forward to this week's vacation."
The Bradys are staying through the weekend.
At Ripley’s Believe it or Not, the manager had a pleasant morning, finding a line of people waiting to get in.
