UPDATE 12/13:  The Virginia Beach City Council will hold a special formal session on Tuesday, Dec. 17, at 9 a.m. in the City Council Chamber to interview candidates for two open seats on the council.

According to the City Manager's Office, the City Council will then meet in closed session to discuss the possible appointment of one or two of the candidates. If the council makes an appointment, it will be after the council reconvenes in public session.

VIRGINIA BEACH - As a result of the imminent resignations of Councilmembers Glenn R. Davis and Bill R. DeSteph, who were recently elected to the Virginia General Assembly, there will be two vacancies on the City Council that need to be fill.

Five people filed for the vacant Rose Hall District seat and 34 filed for one At-Large seat.

Registered voters who were interested in the positions had to submit a letter stating interest in serving as a member of the City Council, a statement of qualifications, a recent photo and a completed questionnaire.

Va. Beach City Council will receive "complete application packages" on December 6.

The citizens appointed by City Council to fill these vacancies will serve until candidates are elected during the Nov. 4, 2014, election.
