Man charged in robbery, attempted robbery of Virginia Beach banks

3/26 UPDATE: Frederick Charles Witt, 57, was arrested at his home in the 1000 block of West Ocean View Avenue in Norfolk on charges of robbery and attempted robbery.
Police say his arrest came about 10 hours after the Wells Fargo robbery.

VIRGINIA BEACH- A manhunt is underway in Virginia Beach for a man who robbed one bank and tried to rob another just blocks from each other on Shore Drive.

Police say around 10:30 AM Tuesday morning, the suspect entered the Wells Fargo Bank branch at 2821 Shore Drive, demanded money from a teller, and got away with an undisclosed amount of cash.

40 minutes earlier, dispatchers received a call about the attempted robbery of the BB&T Bank branch at  2993 Shore Drive.

In the BB&T robbery, the suspect is described as a white male, 30-40 years old, 5'9, 175 pounds, dark hair, wearing a pinstripe suit jacket and pants. He is believed to be driving a dark colored Jeep 4-door SUV.

A similar description of the suspect was released for the Wells Fargo robbery.

Police released surveillance photos of the suspect in each case.
