2/18 UPDATE: Hagerman was ordered to remain hospitalized with the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health services until his next review date in Feb. 2015, said Commonwealth's Attorney spokeswoman Macie Pridgen.
Having been found not guilty by reason of insanity, he is required by law to have annual reviews for the first five years, and bi-annual reviews thereafter, she explained.

VIRGINIA BEACH - A Virginia Beach man who decapitated his son will stay in a state mental health facility for now.

Joseph Hagerman III waived his right to appear at a status hearing Monday, Commonwealth’s Attorney spokeswoman Macie Pridgen told WVEC.com.

He was found not guilty by reason of insanity in the February 2009 killing of his son, which he said he did to save the boy from the anti-Christ.

Both the Commonwealth and the defense had agreed that he continues to need treatment, Pridgen stated.
