NORFOLK – A man wanted for stealing mail from a truck in Norfolk has been arrested.
Dominique A. Hankins, 19, is accused of shooting out the window of the mail truck on March 31 and then grabbing the mail that was closest to the window.
Hankins was arrested June 14 when he showed up at the courthouse in Va. Beach on business not related to the mail theft, said US Postal Inspector M.J. Romano.
US Postal Inspectors had issued four warrants for his arrest.
Romano says there have been no fraud-related complaints from this situation.
"According to Federal Trade Commission statistics, theft of mail relates to less than 2% of all reported identity theft cases. An individual is 20 times more likely to have their identity stolen via computer breaches or personal thefts," Romano stated.
You can report any situations involving mail theft or tampering to the U.S. Postal Inspection Service at 877-876-2455.
