VIRGINIA BEACH - A man was hit by a tractor-trailer on I-64 in Chesapeake on Thursday morning.

Va. State Police were called to the westbound lanes near the S. Military Highway exit around 8:30 a.m.

The man suffered serious, but not life-threatening injuries and was transported to Norfolk General Hospital for treatment, spokeswoman Corinne Geller told WVEC.com.

State police are still investigating why the pedestrian was on the Interstate.

No charges have been filed at this time.

The right hand lane of the Interstate was closed for about 35 minutes, causing about a one mile backup.
