NORFOLK -- Police Thursday identified the man found dead in his apartment at Cromwell House Apartments Wednesday morning.
Investigators are trying to find out who killed Louis A. Daniel Jr., 77, who was found dead around 7:00 a.m.
"That man don't bother nobody. He don't go nowhere. He sit right there in that window and read books, day, all day long," said Marvin Evans, who lives a floor above the victim. "If he go out of his apartment, that I know, it's just to go to the mail, our mail room to get his mail or go to that library that we have in there to get a book to read."
Evans, who told 13News he heard gunfire late Tuesday night, said at least one other neighbor did, too.
"She heard the gunshot and said when she looked out the window, she saw a blue car going down this driveway here," explained Evans, "trying to get out of this driveway, like it was in a hurry to get out the driveway."
Officers made no mention of a car being involved.
A security guard made rounds at the building late Wednesday, an addition that Evans said was overdue. He told 13News it was something that had been discussed long before the killing, something, that now, is doing little to calm the fears of many.
"They won't even go out. They talking now that they they won't even go to the store at night," said Evans. "They won't even go out to the pharmacist, the drug store, nowhere. They're scared."
