UPDATE 1/10:  Police say Melvin Vaughn was arrested Friday at 11 a.m. without incident in the 1500 block of Berkley Ave. in Norfolk. 

Vaughn was charged with petit larceny, possession with intent to distribute marijuana and felony escape. 

Vaughn is currently being held in the Chesapeake City Jail without bond.

CHESAPEAKE -- A suspected marijuana dealer was able to escape from the back of a police cruiser last Saturday, police said

According to police spokeswoman Kelly O'Sullivan, 46-year-old Melvin Vaughn had been taken into custody for petit larceny and possession with intent to distribute marijuana following a traffic stop.

O'Sullivan says while the officer was tending to the suspect's vehicle, Vaughn was able to flee the police vehicle through a window.
