Chanello's Pizza robbery
VIRGINIA BEACH-- A Virginia Beach man who claimed he shot someone who was trying to rob him has now been charged with second degree murder.
Police say that 35-year-old Ryan Patrick Brown shot Edward Dale Chapple on Dec. 8 in the 900 block of Virginia Beach Boulevard. Chapple later died from his injuries.
Police say Brown called 911 claiming he shot Chapple, who was trying to rob him.
After days of investigation, detectives determined the events reported by Brown did not match their findings, and he was charged.
Police believe Brown was also responsible for the Dec. 4 robbery at Chanellos Pizza on Aragona Boulevard, where two employees were shot shortly after 2 a.m.
Both victims were transported to the hospital and treated for non-life threatening gunshot wounds.
Brown is charged with second degree murder, robbery, 2 counts of malicious wounding, four counts of use of a firearm and grand larceny.
Brown is currently in the Virginia Beach Correctional Center and is being held without bond.
