FRANKLIN-A crash claimed the life of a 12-year-old girl and her father, the driver of the car she was, in is under arrest.

Va. State Police say 45-year-old Tony Sledge had a woman and five children in the car on October 26 when he lost control and the vehicle flipped.   The child died at the scene; the others in the car were taken to the hospital for treatment, Sgt. Michelle Anaya added.

The accident happened on Route 258 south of Sycamore Church Road around 11:30 a.m.

Sgt. Anaya stated speed and alcohol contributed to the deadly crash.

Sledge is charged with involuntary manslaughter DUI related, assault, maiming another while DUI, and abuse/neglect of a child causing serious injury.
