CHESAPEAKE -- A 38-year-old man is behind bars following an overnight standoff in Chesapeake.

Police say they received a call to check on the wellbeing of someone in a room at Studios & Suites4 Less on Battlefield Boulevard around 11:30 p.m. Monday, according to MPO Kelly O'Sullivan with the Chesapeake Police Department.

When police arrived on scene, they made contact with Alan Lawson who was barricaded inside one of the rooms there. Lawson indicated he was armed and made several threats.

SWAT was called in to assist with the situation.  After several hours, authorities fired canisters into the room to coax him out.

Lawson surrendered without incident around 5:30 a.m., O'Sullivan said. He now faces several charges, including threats to a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest.
