NEWPORT NEWS -- State police have released the names of the victims killed in a horrific wreck on I-64 Wednesday night.
Just after 9 p.m., authorities responded to a single-vehicle accident in the westbound lanes at mile marker 252 in Newport News. State police say a 1998 BMW ran off the roadway and hit a tree.
The driver, Lamar Parker, 22, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The passenger, Lashawan Hogans, 21, was pulled from the wreckage and airlifted to a local hospital where she later died. Her uncle Nathan Jones described his niece.
“It's sad it happened the way it happened, but she was a really good person. She was a part of me,” Jones said.
The accident is still under investigation. It is unclear if speed or alcohol were factors in the crash.
