VIRGINIA BEACH--Rick Langlands and his girlfriend Karen Kennedy are on a flight Saturday night coming home.  They were aboard the cruise ship that ran aground in Italy Friday.  The ship was carrying more than 4 thousand passengers.  Three people died in the shipwreck and many people are still missing.

Saturday, Rick's brother Peter Langlands told 13 News that the couple was safely rescued on a life boat.  They emailed Peter to tell him they're safe and sound.  The couple got a flight back to Hampton Roads, and the two are expected to arrive at Norfolk international Airport Sunday night.

The couple were on the Costa Concordia.  A luxury cruise ship which ran aground off the coast of Tuscany Friday.  The ship was 2.5 miles off route when it struck the rocky sandbar.  About 50 people are still unaccounted for, and rescuers are planning to resume their search Sunday.
