VIRGINIA BEACH--After more than 80 years, the Lesner bridge could get a new name.
As the city crews work to replace the old Lynnhaven Inlet bridge, the Bayfront advisory committee is trying to decide whether to rename the bridge or keep the old name.
Many locals don't know the meaning behind the name Lesner.
In 1928, the bridge was named after former Norfolk Senator John Lesner. He's known for fighting to improve the state's roads and bridges.
Now the community is considering new names, including Lynnhaven Inlet Bridge. Other options are naming the bridge in honor of: longtime Bayside city council member Louis Jones, fallen police officer Hezekiah Little Jr (a black officer shot to death in 1953 on a segregated beach along the Chesapeake Bay), or Adam Thoroughgood, one of the first settlers in Virginia Beach in 1662.
