NEWPORT NEWS -- One person has been taken to the hospital after an apartment fire.
The fire started about 4:30 Thursday in the 1300 block of Garden Drive.
When firefighters got to the scene, they could see heavy smoke coming from the front of the building. They got the fire under control in 10 minutes.
Investigators believe the fire started in the kitchen area.
The adult who was hurt was taken to the hosptal with non-life threatening injuries.
The American Red Cross is helping the two adults and three children displaced by the fire.
