VIRGINIA BEACH -- Counselors were available at Kempsville High School Monday for any student or staff member who wanted to speak about the weekend death of a 16-year-old student.

Police say the Joseph Fonseca, who was on the baseball team, was a passenger in a car that crashed just after midnight Sunday.

Police say the 16-year-old driver was driving drunk on Avalon Avenue and crashed into a tree.

The teen driver is charged with DUI and involuntary manslaughter.

Neighbors say the news hits especially hard because the driver was a good friend of Joey's and lived close by.

A makeshift memorial has been created at the crash site.

A memorial fund has been set up at RBC Bank to help the family with funeral expenses. Donations can be made at any branch. bank.
