VIRGINIA BEACH -- The jury convicted a man of killing his estranged girlfriend and her friend.
Jerome Usher iwas charged with the November 4, 2007 murders of Brenda Burnett and James Vass in Burnett's townhome on Pollypine Drive.
Police said Usher killed Burnett and Vass during an argument.
Neighbors at the time said Burnett hadn't lived there long and was renting a room.
His trial began Wednesday and was in the hands of the jury by mid-morning Thursday. The verdict came mid-afternoon and the sentencing phase was underway.
Usher had previously pleaded guilty but withdrew that plea, according to the Commonwealth's Attorney office.
