7:40 a.m. UPDATE: Authorities tell us the man has been found in the area of the 500 block of Sandbridge Road and he's okay. There was no immediate information available on where the man had been. His jetski sankin a shallow canal in Hell Point Creek, he told authorities.
VIRGINIA BEACH -- Searchers are trying to find a jetskier who hasn't been seen by family since Wednesday afternoon.
Police say they were called around 8:30 p.m. and told the jetskier hadn't returned from his 4:30 p.m. ride after leaving from the boat ramp on Sandpiper Road.
Marine units from the police department, personnel from the Virginia Beach fire department and a Coast Guard helicopter searched until about 1 a.m.
Virginia Beach Police marine units have resumed the search. The Coast Guard told WVEC.com it will rejoin the search with a helicopter from Air Station Elizabeth City beginning at 9:00 a.m.
As Hurricane Cristobal churns up the East Coast, the risk of rip currents remains high. The National Weather Service says waves and surf should reach four feet through Thursday morning off Va. Beach, diminishing to three to four feet by afternoon.
