PORTSMOUTH -– Weekend closures at the Downtown Tunnel westbound will resume April 4 for the next several weeks.
On Friday, April 4, and Saturday, April 5, the tunnel on I-264 West will close at 8 p.m. and reopen at 8 the next morning. Motorists should also expect full overnight closures on Friday, April 11 and Saturday, April 12.
During these closures, two ramps from Norfolk will also close as early as 7 p.m. each night:
• The on-ramp from City Hall Ave. onto I-264 West
• The on-ramp from Tidewater Dr. onto I-264 West
The on-ramp from Market St. to I-264 West will remain open for motorists in Norfolk accessing the I-264 West Downtown Tunnel until 8 p.m. or for continued access to I-464 overnight.
Traffic will be detoured to the Interstate 64 High Rise Bridge. Other alternate routes include the Midtown Tunnel and South Norfolk Jordan Bridge.
The work does not affect eastbound tunnel traffic.
