CHESAPEAKE -- Firefighters are investigating a house fire in the Western Branch area of Chesapeake.

It started Friday afternoon just before 2:30.  The house in the 2400 block of West Bugle Drive, off Taylor Road, was fully engulfed in flames.

Captain Mike Thibeault says one person died as a result of the fire.  One Chesapeake police officer was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation.  The officer got there before firefighters and broke out a window in an attempt to help.

One neighbor told 13News a father and two children live in the home.

The fire marshal is on scene and trying to determine the cause of the fire.
