HAMPTON – Some students at Hampton University had to sweat it out while taking tests and classes.
Several classrooms have gone without air conditioning, and according to some students, it's been that way since May.
Several students who did not want to be identified, told 13News they requested to get the A/C fixed but those requests went unanswered for months.
“I was sweating on my papers that I was taking notes on,” described one student.
The physical therapy student said he and a classmate brought it up to his department head who seemed receptive but couldn’t get results.
In Phenix Hall, students propped open the doors and ran fans but said it was hard to concentrate.
“It’s not conducive to a healthy learning environment for us, and it’s very hard to focus a lot of the time when you’re just exhausted from the heat.”
A University spokesperson tells 13News the A/C units in Phenix Hall were last checked in late May. She said they're now checking the entire building and making sure all units are running properly.
