Suspect identified in Hampton officer-involved shooting

UPATE 3/19  2 PM:  22-year-old Frederick Frimpong Forson Jr. has been charged with Attempted Capital Murder of a police officer.  Forson was also charged with one count of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, one count of discharging a firearm within 1000 feet of a school, and one count of marijuana possesion.

10 p.m. UPDATE: The Hampton Police Division has identified Frederick Frimpong Forson Jr., 22, in connection with an Attempt Capital Murder of a Police Officer investigation. Forson has been arrested and is currently in the custody of Hampton police. Charges against him are still pending. 


HAMPTON -- One suspect is in custody after shots were fired in the 2000 block of Cunningham Drive Tuesday afternoon. 

Police responded to Liberty Estates Apartments to break up a fight around 3 p.m. when they say shots were fired at officers.   Police tell 13News Now one officer returned fire.  

Police say the suspect fled and tried to break into an apartment where a woman was home, but was unsuccessful. He then broke into a nearby unit. 

Police took the suspect into custody afterwards.

No injuries were reported. 

Some residents were not immediately able to return to their apartment homes, but police said the area is considered safe.  The investigation continues. 

Nearby Eaton Middle School and Cooper Elementary School were briefly on lock down, but that has now been lifted.
