NORFOLK -- Next month, you'll be able to catch the bus to and from Norfolk International Airport.
Hampton Roads Transit says the hourly service will begin February 5 and end March 10. Buses will run daily from 5:00 a.m. to 11:47 p.m. and could lead to permanent service. Riders will pay $1.50 each way.
"We have received inquiries from customers about why there was no service to the airport, so this is an effort to gauge how strong that interest may be," HRT spokesman Tom Holden told WVEC.com.
The bus will connect customers via Norview Avenue and Tidewater Drive with downtown Norfolk and the Cedar Grove Transfer facility.
Route 7 will leave Norfolk International via Norview Avenue and go to Tidewater Drive for service to downtown Norfolk. The route also will serve the neighborhoods of Bromley, East Norview, Five Points, Green Hill Farms along Norview Avenue, which have no bus service right now.
Light rail customers can board at the bus stop serving the Civic Plaza station on St. Paul's Boulevard.
The airport bus stop is on Arrivals Blvd. near the pedestrian bridge by baggage claim.
“The Norfolk Airport Authority is very pleased to be able to partner with HRT in order to bring this important service to the public. We hope that the service will prove successful,” spokesman Wayne Shank told WVEC.com.
After March 10, HRT says it will look at how many people used the service, evaluate interest and then decide whether the route should be made permanent.
