NEWPORT NEWS -- High school proms are still months away, but tone organization is collecting donated dresses for girls who might not be able to afford to buy one.
The Peninsula Dream Center in Newport News is collecting gently-used formal dresses, shoes and accessories that can be suitable attire for prom night.
"We know lots of people have those things collecting dust. We love to put those things to use to bless young girls in need," said project coordinator Pastor T.J. Wolfe.
The dresses can be dropped off at the Center at 28 Harpersville Road or any YMCA in Newport News, Hampton, York County or Mathews.
"Think about a senior girl going to prom, make her night feel like Cinderella," Wolfe encouraged.
The goal is to collect at least 300 dresses.
The Peninsula Dream Center is working with schools, local YMCA's and schools to identify girls in need. The dresses and accessories will be distributed on April 25, just in time for local proms.
The Peninsula Dream Center is trying to find local cleaners who will donate their serves to have the dresses dry cleaned.
