VIRGINIA BEACH -- Local high school students are helping the homeless this holiday season.
Students in Virginia and North Carolina are participating in the second annual "Give Jeans and Jackets a Chance" program.
They helped collect more than 12,000 pairs of jeans and jackets for the drive.
All the donated clothes are being shipped to more than 20 homeless shelters across virginia and North Carolina that need them most.
The donations were collected Thursday at Coastal Edge in Virginia Beach, a sponsor of the event.
More than 28,000 students took part in the effort.
