VIRGINIA BEACH -- Police were investigating a shooting late Sunday that put a girl in the hospital.

Officers said the shooting happened in the 1400 block of North Face Court at about 10:00 p.m.

A girl who was inside a home was hit. Paramedics took her to the hospital.

A woman who identified herself as the girl's mother tells 13News Now that her daughter is going to be okay. She didn't elaborate any further.

Jimmy Ridley lives across the street from where the shooting happened. He says he heard four shots, but didn't know exactly what happened until he saw people coming outside. "Hopefully the girl gets better," Ridley said.

Another neighbor, who asked not to be identified, said he heard four gunshots. He went on to say he saw the shooter, who was dressed in black, run to a parked car at the corner of Saddlebrook Court and Northface. The car left, heading towards South Independence Boulevard.

Master Police Officers James Cason said detectives are pursuing all leads "aggressively."
