140 students who would normally be playing games at the Virginia Beach Boys and Girls Club have been learning about 3D technology, building computers and producing digital music for three days, all under the watchful eyes of 18 Geek Squad reps and three field lieutenants.
"Our original goal was to increase the number of women in technology. Since then we've branched out to increase the diversity in technology period," said Jennifer Braniff Geek Squad Field Lieutenant.
Best Buy partnered with Boys and Girls Clubs in 27 cities in 19 states to do these Geek Squad Summer Academies. They roll in with three hundred fifty thousand dollars worth of digital technology. Wii included!
"I don't want them to leave. It is really a very good camp and i would have loved for all our boys and girls clubs to take advantage of it and I'm going to tell them about it so they can take advantage of it and I will hope that they come back next year," said Debbie McGaughey, unit director Boys and Girls Club Virginia Beach.
The four classes ranged from creating your own videos to creating your own digital music. 140 students exposed to the digital world like never before. And the Geek Squad instructors make technology fun!
"I like working with all the Geek Squad academy agents cause they always make everybody laugh and you get to know them really well," said Victoria Speller one of the students.
