PORTSMOUTH -- Firefighters worked quickly to knock down a fire in a garage filled with ammunition Wednesday night.

Fire crews responded to the call in the 20 block of Rodgers Street around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The detached garage was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived on scene, according to Chief Jim Hoffler with the Portsmouth Fire Department.

Crews managed to knock the flames down before the ammunition inside the building caught fire.

No one was hurt during the ordeal, but a nearby RV was also affected.

The cause of the fire is now under investigation.
