WILLIAMSBURG--Police say two suspects used a gun and possibly a knife to rob four William and Mary students and their friend late monday night. The group was walking home on Mount Vernon Avenue when the crime occurred. This comes just as students are getting back to classes for the new academic year.
One of the victims told WVEC.com, the students were on their way home when they took a short cut at a bike rack on Mount Vernon Avenue. Two men who had walked passed them moments earlier, doubled back. The men made them get on the ground, and they were robbed at gunpoint.
"It's overwhelming", the victim told WVEC.com, " I was so mad. Because they had us get down on the ground. This never happens here. Had we walked the other way we would have never walked into them."
The 18 year old said the students thought there was safety in numbers. There were two females and three males in their group.
One of the guys in the group was injured. "They actually hit him in the face" said the victim "and so he immediately pulled out his wallet and handed them the cash."
The victim, a college sophomore, says that after the robbery, her parents gave her a car to use. She indicated that from now on, she'll be driving at night instead of walking.
