NORFOLK -- Hundreds of local veterans and families are getting much-needed meals, thanks to a partnership with Food Lion and the Food Bank of Southeastern Virginia.
Workers from both groups organized a 'mobile pantry' at the Ahoy Shoppes in Chesapeake Tuesday, supplying food to area residents on limited incomes.
They loaded cars with boxes of meat, vegetables, and other grocery items donated from Food Lion.
It's all in an effort to help end hunger in Hampton Roads.
"This is handing out over seven hundred boxes to local people here that are our sisters, they're our brothers, they're our neighbors that are in need," said Food Lion President Beth Newlands Campbell.
