CHESAPEAKE -- Food Lion and the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore have teamed up to fight hunger.
A distribution of special Food Lion “Summers Without Hunger” boxes filled with donated grocery products and meals were handed out to to 700 families in need during an event in Chesapeake Tuesday morning.
“Hunger is a solvable issue, when we all work together,” said Marianne Smith Vargas, Chief Philanthropy Officer of the Foodbank. “With generous partners, like Food Lion, enhancing their commitment and engaging their customers to join the effort, we are hopeful that one day no one will go hungry.”
The Foodbank’s Mobile Pantry Program typically goes out on weekdays to serve those in areas where access to emergency food is limited.
