NEWPORT NEWS -- The American Red Cross is helping three adults and a child after an apartment fire at The Towers Sunday night.
When the first fire units got to the high-rise, located at 700 Waterfront Circle, they saw smoke and flames coming out of a second-floor unit.
Crews knocked down the fire, conducted primary and secondary searches of the apartment where the fire started, then began evacuating the second floor.
Firefighters had the fire under control at 9:35 p.m., about 14 minutes after their first units got to the building.
Investigators determined the cause of the fire to be electrical.
No firefighters were hurt. One person who lived in the apartment got out before the fire department arrived. Medics treated that person who refused to go to the hospital.
