PORTSMOUTH -- Fire investigators are trying to determine what caused a fire to rip through a detached garage in Portsmouth Wednesday night.
Firefighters responded to call in the 70 block of Farragut Street just after 8:30 p.m. Wednesday.
When crews arrived on scene flames and smoke were seen shooting from the roof, according Portsmouth Fire Chief Mike Stockton.
It took firefighters 30 minutes to contain the blaze. Nobody was injured in the fire.
Firefighters say residents were home at the time, but noticed their garage on fire only after they saw flames.
The fire engulfed the entire roof of the garage and what is left of the building is now exposed to the sky, Stockton said.
An investigation is still underway.
