House fire
HAMPTON -- Fire bady damaged a home in Hampton Monday afternoon.
Crews were called to Rolfe Street in the Wythe section around 1:25 p.m.
Battalion Chief Anthony Chittum told WVEC.com the woman who lives there arrived home to find smoke coming from the eaves of the home. She opened the door, saw flames and smoke, closed the door and got to safety.
Chittum says more than half the home has fire damage and there's smoke damage throughout the building. Holes had to be cut in the roof and many windows have been broken out to ventilate the home, Chittum explained. The Hampton Roads chapter of the American Red Cross is helping the homeowner.
