Newport News Police to host event to strengthen community ties

NEWPORT NEWS -- In an effort to improve the relationship between the community and emergency services personnel, Newport News will host Field of Friends on August 2.

The event includes interactive games, free food, the distribution of prevention materials.

Field of Friends began when a Newport News police officer witnessed children using a trash dumpster as playground equipment in 2006.

Because of funding no Field of Friends was held in 2013, however the Newport News Police Foundation is assisting with funding for this year’s events.

Field of Friends events:
South Precinct
Saturday, August 2 - 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Achievable Dream - 726 16th Street

North Precinct
Friday, August 22 - 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Boys & Girls Club - 429 Thorncliff Drive

Central Precinct
Saturday, August 23 - 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
South Morrison Family Resource Center - 746 Adams Drive
