SB 298 would prohibit insurance companies from dropping policies on homes built with the material. It's being discussed in the Commerce and Labor Committee today.
SB 471 would make it illegal for suppliers to sell or use the imported material in construction, remodeling or repair. The bill is now on its first of three readings before the senate.
"If something isn't done soon, we are going to have to foreclose on our homes and the cities are going to be left with these blighted properties," stated Colleen Nguyen, who showed photographs, the drywall from her home and utensils she says were tarnished by the drywall.
On Sunday, 13News reported a dozen home owners in Yorktown discovered their homes were built with the potentially toxic material.
The development, Overlook Point, was built by developer Atlantic homes. Atlantic Homes built some townhomes in Newport News with Chinese drywall.
