JAMES CITY COUNTY -- An empty shoe box caused some commotion Sunday at the United States Post Office at 5219 Monticello Avenue Sunday.

Members of the James City County Fire and Police Departments, Virginia State Police, and the United States Postal Service after someone reported a suspicious package at the post office a little before noon.

James City County officers got there and found a shoe box on the counter. No one was inside the building.

Crews set up a perimeter around the post office. The on-scene Fire Marshal requested the Virginia State Police Bomb Disposal Unit respond.

A robot fired a water slug at the shoe box to disrupt any electrical or explosive material.

The box turned out to be empty. The water that the robot fired did not cause any damage inside the post office.

Emergency responders turned over the building to the Postal Inspector and post office staff, and units left at 3:24 p.m.
