VIRGINIA BEACH (AP) -- Virginia Beach's Labor Day weekend festivities are still on but could be delayed, despite the threat posed by Hurricane Earl.
City leaders and tourism officials decided Thursday to go ahead with the American Music Festival featuring the Village People and Pat Benatar.
Officials said they believe the brunt of Earl's winds and rains will have passed by the Virginia Coast by the time Friday night's events are staged.
Once the storm has passed Friday, city officials will assess conditions at the beach and decide whether to delay concerts scheduled at the four stages
Earl has been downgraded to a Category 3 storm, but a hurricane watch and tropical storm warning have been posted for the coast in advance of the storm's swing through the area early Friday.
A Virginia Beach emergency services official said the city was watching Earl's track to see if it will be a mad dash or as normal as can be.
Friday night, the 5th Street Main Stage doors open at 6:30 p.m. Gloria Gaynor performs from 10:00 to 11:15 p.m., The Village People perform from 9:00-10:00 p.m., and The Trammps open the show from 7:45-8:45 p.m. Right On Band, initially set to open the concert, will not perform.
The Rock 'n Roll Half Marathon is Sunday and that's still on as well.
