ELIZABETH CITY--The North Carolina State Board of Elections unanimously overturned a decision Tuesday that disqualified ECSU student Montravias King from running for city council.

In last months ruling, the Pasquotank County Board of Elections said King was ineligible to run, claiming his college dorm address did not count as a permanent residence.   King has been registered to vote in the county since enrolling in college in 2009 and says he plans to stay after graduation.

King appealed that decision to the state board, meaning King can run for the seat representing the campus.

Associated Press contributed to this story.
