Ronald McDonald House-Norfolk
NORFOLK -- A cookbook sale was the recipe for success for the Ronald McDonald House in Norfolk.
Dillard's stores presented a check for $30,136.80 from the sale of Dillard’s exclusive Southern Living Christmas Cookbook during the Holiday 2009 Season.
"It is a record amount (from Dillard's) for this market," said spokeswoman Elyse Brown. "Dillard’s has been supportive to Ronald McDonald Houses in the communities they are located in for years."
Brown says the money will help provide families with a “home away from home while their child is ill."
In 2009, the Ronald McDonald House served 1,017 families and just 39 percent of them were able to make the $25 donation to defray costs, down from 49-percent the previous year.
Brown says the economy is tough, but it is a great sign that corporations like Dillard’s still support organizations in the communities they do business.
"We rely on these donations and if they did not occur, it would seriously impact our ability to provide services," she added.
She noted that Ronald McDonald House in Norfolk provided 3,890 night stays.
Across the country, the Dillard's cookbooks raised more than $1.4 million.
Ronald McDonald House Charities of Norfolk was established in 1981.
