NORFOLK -- Norfolk hazmat crews say the gasoline smell on May Avenue has subsided, but they still don't know where it came from.

May Avenue was briefly closed between Princess Anne Rd. & Va. Beach Blvd. as a precaution.

Battalion Chief Harry Worley says crews were called around 1:35 p.m. Monday.

Worley said there was concern about combustion because of gas in the sewer, but the situation was clearning by 4:30 p.m.

No evacuations were needed.

Investigators will continue looking for the source of the gas smell.
