PORTSMOUTH -- The Portsmouth-based Cutter Northland is getting a new commanding officer.
Cmdr. Jason Ryan will relieve Cmdr. Holly Harrison during a change of command ceremony at 10 a.m. Monday.
Harrison has commanded the Northland crew of 13 officers and 85 enlisted personnel since May 2012. She leaves Portsmouth to be the Coast Guard’s national security affairs fellow at Stanford University’s Hoover Institution.
Ryan comes to Portsmouth after serving as the sponsor’s representative for the Offshore Patrol Cutter major acquisition project in the Office of Cutter Forces at Coast Guard Headquarters in Washington, D.C.
The presiding official for the change of command ceremony will be Vice Adm. Robert C. Parker, Commander of Coast Guard Atlantic Area.
The Northland is slated to be replaced by a new fleet of Offshore Patrol Cutters that will be able to carry out the Coast Guard's maritime security and safety missions.
