VIRGINIA BEACH (AP) -- A 570-foot barge that went aground in the surf off Virginia Beach is free.

The Coast Guard says salvage crews used two tugs to pull the La Princesa off Sandbridge beach at high tide Wednesday morning.

Inspectors from the Coast Guard and a member of the American Bureau of Shipping will check the vessel's seaworthiness. If it's determined to be seaworthy, the barge will be towed by a tug to Pennsauken, N.J.

The barge was en route to the New Jersey port from Puerto Rico when it ran aground during a powerful storm Friday.
