ISLE OF WIGHT COUNTY-A couple who pleaded guilty in the death of their baby girl was sentenced Wednesday in Isle of Wight County Court.
Robert Molinksi received a 40-year sentence and Mary Webb will spend three years in prison for the February 2012 death of little Piper Molinski. Authorities say the autopsy showed the four-month old child's injuries included cracked ribs, a cracked skull, bruises and burns - signs of abuse.
In passing sentence, the judge said Webb did nothing to protect her children from repeated abuse and he called her "a willing bystander."
Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney Steve Edwards said, "nothing mattered more to Ms. Webb than her obsession with her boyfriend. She had a choice to save her relationship or her children. This was a terrible example of bad judgment."
After spending time behind bars, Webb will be on ten years supervised probation and cannot see her surviving children until they reach age 18.
Piper's twin, Ella, survived her injuries, according to police.
Molinski and Webb had moved with their three children to Smithfield from Newport News.
